Queen City Engineering & Design receives the 2022 NCMEP Innovative Practice Award

The North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NCMEP), the state’s official representative of the MEP National Network™ and NIST MEP, announced the winners of the 2022 North Carolina State Manufacturing Leadership Awards during the closing event of the 2022 North Carolina Manufacturing Conference (MFGCON) in Durham, NC. The awards recognize manufacturers across North Carolina for outstanding achievements in areas including manufacturing excellence, sustainability, innovation, workforce and economic development, market growth, and community outreach.
INNOVATIVE PRACTICE AWARD: QUEEN CITY ENGINEERING & DESIGN
Queen City Engineering was honored with the Leadership in Innovative Practice Award for its ability to quickly adapt and innovate during the challenges of 2020. Based in Concord, NC, the engineering and development company pivoted to manufacturing personal protective equipment (PPE), designing and installing custom sneeze guards and driver barriers for the transportation industry during the height of the pandemic. Their rapid response not only prevented layoffs but also allowed the company to expand its workforce. To date, Queen City Engineering has sold more than 4,000 barriers to over 90 transit agencies across the United States.
Driven by a commitment to creating real-world solutions, Queen City Engineering has continued to lead in innovation by partnering with the Charlotte City Council to address bus operator safety concerns and collaborating with Thomas Built Buses to develop the only OEM-approved School Bus Driver Barrier system of its kind. The company also strengthened its operational excellence through an NCMEP grant supporting ISO 9001:2015 implementation. As President Rex Carriker shared, the company’s growth reflects its ability to adapt quickly to changing economic conditions and industry needs.
