Chicago gave us the kind of week that reminds us why this industry matters. The APTA 2026 TRANSform Conference and Expo brought together the people who design, build, operate, maintain, and improve public transportation across the country. For the Queen City Transit Solutions team, it was a week filled with product conversations, hands-on learning, customer connections, and clear momentum around one central priority: operator safety.

From transit agencies and OEMs to dealers, fleet leaders, and industry partners, the conversations at APTA 2026 were thoughtful, practical, and focused on real needs. We left Chicago energized by the ideas shared at our booth, the feedback we received, and the relationships that continue to shape the next generation of driver protection systems.

A week built around real conversations

Trade shows can be busy, but the best moments often happen in the conversations between scheduled events. That was true for our team throughout the week in Chicago.

We had meaningful discussions with transit agencies about the day-to-day conditions operators face. We spoke with OEMs and dealers about integration, fit, installation, and long-term service needs. We reconnected with customers who have trusted our products in the field and met new partners looking for practical ways to improve protection across their fleets.

Those conversations matter because transit safety is not a one-size-fits-all challenge. Every fleet has its own vehicle types, operating environment, rider patterns, maintenance practices, and budget realities. Good solutions have to work in that real world, not just in a brochure or a concept drawing.

That is why APTA 2026 was such a valuable week for Queen City Transit Solutions. It gave us a chance to listen, test ideas, answer questions, and show how our protective materials and systems are built for the demands of public transportation.

Smash Lab put protection to the test

One of the biggest highlights of the week was our interactive Smash Lab.

Attendees stepped up, took a swing, and saw firsthand how our protective materials respond under impact. It was hands-on, direct, and memorable. More than anything, it turned a technical conversation into an experience.

Protective materials can be difficult to explain with words alone. Specifications help. Drawings help. Product samples help. But when someone can see and feel the strength of a material in person, the conversation changes.

Smash Lab gave attendees a closer look at:

  • How protection systems can help create a safer operator area

  • Why material strength and design both matter

  • How impact resistance supports real-world transit safety goals

  • What agencies and partners should ask when reviewing protection options

A huge thank you goes to everyone who participated. The energy around Smash Lab was one of the clearest signs that the industry is paying close attention to the future of driver protection.

Driver safety was front and center in the Innovation Learning Zone

Another major moment for our team came during the Innovation Learning Zone, where Rex Carriker presented “When Safety Is Non-Negotiable: Developing the Next Generation of Driver Protection Systems.”

The session focused on a simple but serious idea: driver safety cannot be treated as an add-on. It has to be considered from the start. That means thinking through materials, visibility, comfort, communication, installation, maintenance, and the conditions operators face during a normal shift.

Transit operators are essential to public transportation. They serve riders, manage schedules, respond to unpredictable situations, and keep vehicles moving safely through complex environments. Protection systems should support that work without making the operator’s job harder.

Rex’s presentation opened the door for strong conversations about how safety products should be developed around real transit challenges. The goal is not only to build stronger barriers or better components. The goal is to create solutions that fit the vehicle, support the operator, and help agencies maintain a safer operating environment.

Flight Club reminded us that relationships matter

APTA 2026 was not only about products and presentations. It was also about the people who make this industry work.

We were grateful to host our customers, partners, and friends at Flight Club Chicago for a customer appreciation event filled with conversation, friendly competition, and plenty of laughs. It was a great reminder that strong business relationships are built through trust, shared goals, and time spent together.

Events like this give everyone a chance to step away from the show floor and connect in a different way. The discussions become more relaxed. The ideas keep flowing. New introductions turn into real relationships.

We appreciate everyone who joined us. Your partnership means a great deal to our team.

Thank you to the partners who made the week special

A week like this is shaped by many people, and we want to recognize a few who helped make APTA 2026 especially memorable.

Thank you to CCW for welcoming us into their hospitality suite! It was an evening of fun, caricature drawings, music, great conversations, and of course the FAMOUS SALAMI!

Thank you to GILLIG for hosting an incredible evening at the Shedd Aquarium. The setting, the conversations, and the company made it a standout experience.

Most of all, thank you to everyone who visited our booth, asked questions, shared feedback, tested our products, and spent time with the Queen City Transit Solutions team. Your input helps guide the work ahead.

What comes next for Queen City Transit Solutions

We left Chicago with fresh ideas, new connections, and a stronger sense of where the industry is headed. The need for practical, well-designed operator protection is clear, and the conversations at APTA 2026 reinforced how much work is still possible.

Our team will continue building solutions that respond to the realities of public transportation. That means listening to agencies, working with OEMs and dealers, supporting customers in the field, and staying focused on systems that help protect the people behind the wheel.

APTA 2026 was one for the books. Thank you for making it such a successful and energizing week.

Until next time, APTA.
